Bolangir (Odisha): A visually impaired person named Suresh Naik of Sanatika village under Loisinga block in Odisha's Bolangir district has become an example for everyone in the state.

Despite being visually impaired, he has become one of the successful farmers of the state. Although he has become blind from a very young age, his strong will power has made him known as a successful person.

Naik has reached the ripe age of his life. His body is bent from the waist, his skins have loosened and above all, he cannot see anything in his eyes from his childhood.

Naik had suffered from smallpox while he was only three years of age and because of that, he had lost both his eyes. After that, the colourful world around him had become total darkness for him and his own future was also pushed towards darkness.

On the other hand, as he was very poor, his plight had been doubled. But while he was growing up in age, he also continued his struggle against all odds.

Gradually he himself started cultivating his two acres of agricultural land. While it seemed to be an almost impossible task to take up cultivation of land without visual power, he accomplished the job successfully and showed it to others.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Naik said," I am able to correctly guess and identify the location of my land, draw water from the well and irrigate my agricultural field and also perform all related jobs like harvesting of the paddy in a meticulous manner."

"In such a kind of life, my wife extended me the necessary assistance in my work. Along with that I am also cultivating vegetables in my field and managing the burden of my family," he said.

He is not only a successful farmer but also at the same time he is a musician, a lyricist and an instrumentalist and has been able to create a special identity for himself before others. That is why the people of his village regard him as their “Guru” (Teacher) and respect him.

"Initially I learnt playing the banjo from a teacher of Baragarh district. Later I started playing with “Mridang’ (tabour made of clay), piano and flute in a perfect manner. Likewise, I become an expert in writing lyrics and setting them in a musical tune," he added.
