Odisha offers help to rain-hit Bihar

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik called up Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and offered all possible help to Bihar government in its efforts to manage the floods. The torrential rain between September 27 and 30 has created a flood-like situation across 15 districts in Bihar where at least 73 people have so far died.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister (CM) Naveen Patnaik on Thursday called up his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar and offered help to the rain-hit state where at least 73 people have so far died.

"Expressing concern over the situation, Patnaik spoke to Nitish Kumar over the phone and offered all possible help to Bihar government in its efforts to manage the floods," an official at the Chief Minister's Office said.

The torrential rain between September 27 and 30 has created a flood-like situation across 15 districts in Bihar, including the state capital of Patna.

A portion of Patna city continues to remain waterlogged for close to a week.

According to the data provided by the National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF) on Thursday claims to rescue more than 11,000 people from different parts of the state.

Besides, the rescue operation conducted by the disaster teams, people have to face a severe shortage of food and clean water.

Though the government claims to have sanctioned enough funds for the relief and restoration work, Rajendra Nagar showcases a different picture.

Meanwhile, forces involved in relief and rescue operations fished out rotting corpses from water-logged areas in several places.

Banks, shops, private hospitals and coaching institutes which abound in Kankar Bagh, Rajendra Nagar and Pataliputra Colony the worst-affected zones have been closed for a week.
