Bhubaneswar: As power infrastructure was severely hit in Odisha by Cyclone Fani, the state government on Thursday assured to restore normal power supply by May 12.
Speaking to reporters here, Information and Public Relations Secretary Sanjay Singh said, "We have to rebuild the power infrastructure afresh in many places of Puri district."
"Though we have completely restored power supply in Cuttack, we will aim to provide normal supply to around 80 per cent of consumers by May 10, and fully restore power supply by May 12," he added.
Singh further said that nearly 3,500 skilled workers from neighbouring states of West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana have been inducted to quicken the pace of restoration.
Cyclone Fani has resulted in immense loss to property and to some extent lives in Odisha and neighbouring states. Among the worst hit towns are Bhubaneshwar and Puri.
"Nearly 6 lakh houses were damaged after the 'extremely severe cyclonic storm' Fani hit Odisha coast in Puri district on May 3. At least 41 people lost their lives and around 1.48 crore people were affected due to cyclone 'Fani'," the state government had informed on May 7.
