Bhubaneswar: After Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs hurled shoes at the Speaker of Odisha Assembly during the House proceedings, the latter Saturday suspended three lawmakers till the end of the continuing Budget Session.

Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro suspended three BJP MLAs for hurling shoes at him and hampering the dignity of his chair during the House proceedings today.

Announcing theirs' suspension, Patro said the three MLAs — Jaynarayan Mishra, Bishnu Charan Sethi and Mohan Majhi, will not be allowed to attend the ongoing Assembly session.

The Opposition MLAs fumed over the passing of the Odisha Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill and also alleged that the bill was passed in the House without any debate.

Following this, the situation took an ugly turn and as a mark of protest, Mishra, Sethi and Majhi hurled shoes, papers, pen and earphone at the Speaker.

Speaking to media persons after the incident, MLA Jaynarayan Mishra said, "I don’t know what exactly I have thrown at the Speaker but I have not done anything wrong. The Speaker deserved this kind of behaviour."

Meanwhile, refuting the allegation, MLA Bishnu Charan Sethi said, "I haven’t thrown shoes at him (Speaker). I just threw a pen and headphone. Many people threw a lot of things on speaker but I have not thrown shoes. This is an undemocratic way to pass the bill without any debate."
