Malkangiri: A sleepy town of Odisha gave an emotional farewell to IPS Jagmohan Meena who won many accolades and praises for his service as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Malkangiri district of Odisha.
In the early hours on Thursday local residents gathered outside the Police station with drums and music to greet their hero, one last time.
People were seen shaking hands and offering garlands to Jagmohan Meena as he walked around soaking in the celebrations. Recently, as a part of Odisha government's bureaucratic reshuffle Jagmohan Meena is being transferred out of the district.
In a video which went viral on social media, the policemen were seen carrying him on their shoulder from his residence to the SP office.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, police officers who took part in the grand sendoff said that Jagmohan remains as a source of motivation and has carried himself as a true leader.
"He used to consider us like friends. We will miss him," Constable Bharat Behra said.
According to reports, the IPS officer engaged in community service throughout his stint in Malkangiri as was seen as an icon who stressed on Women empowerment in the society.
Besides, Meena has also won praise for reportedly nurturing the surrendered Maoists to become teachers in their community.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Ravi Rajesh, a Social Activist and the founder of 'Jai Malkangiri' said, "We have never seen such grounded IPS officer. He was special."
Jagmohan Meena, who is being transferred to Angul district, will remain a beloved icon among his friends and residents of Malkangiri as his charitable works keeps his legacy alive.
