Koraput: A London-based couple, Richard Gold and Jennifer Gold, took a walk down the memory lane by visiting Machkund dam at Koraput district of Odisha, where they resided temporarily, 69 years ago.
In the 1950s, the British government had hired few skilled engineers from London and Germany for the completion of the hydroelectric power plant in Koraput district. The British couple's fathers were involved in the Machkund project.
Thereafter, Chief Engineer George Gold, father of Richard and Assistant Engineer Rubber Neugold, father of Jennifer, temporarily shifted to Odisha along with their families.
The couple recently visited Odisha after a gap of 69 years and refreshed their childhood memories.
“My father was here for the hydroelectric project work in 1950 and he was engaged in the tunnel and pipe works connecting to the turbines,” revealed nostalgic Richard.
Jennifer too expressed her joy and said, “My father worked as an assistant engineer. I was nine-month-old and my sister was four when we arrived here so I don’t have many memories, but still, it is wonderful to be here, thinking about my parents who stayed here and enjoyed the view of mountains.”
Power project workers and locals were filled with excitement and accorded a grand welcome to the couple who were overwhelmed to see the place after six decades.
