Bhadrak (Odisha): As many as 26 migrant labourers from Maharasthra have been left stranded in Odisha's Bhadrak district, following the nationwide lockdown clamped to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus.

The daily wagers, who were working on a construction site, have been staying at District's Dhamnagar block office. They were running out of food but the local sarpanch helped them by providing food and other essentials.

“We are scared about what will happen in the future. Our family members back in our villages are also worried. We don’t know anyone here. We don’t have money left with us. The locals and the local sarpanch are providing food to us after the second phase of the nationwide lockdown was announced. We earn from our day labour and then eat. When you do not have any means of income due to the lockdown, it is hard to survive in such conditions," a migrant worker said to ETV Bharat.

Notably, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday discussed with his Maharashtra counterpart Uddhav Thackeray for the safe return of Odia migrants stranded in Maharashtra and vice versa.
