Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu directed his Ministry officials to continuously monitor the situation arising in the wake of cyclonic storm Fani which made landfall earlier in the day in Odisha.

In a tweet, Prabhu said that aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will be issuing revised advisories to airlines as and when necessary.

Fani: Eastern Air Command on standby

HQ EAC has sized up the situation in conjunctiin with Air HQ

Six light helicopters with winch for rescue work, five medium lift helicopters for deploying the relief material abd four AN 32 aircraft have beenbkept ready with medical releif teams for ferrying relief material, medical help and NDRF teams with equipment. Helicopters have been kept ready at Bagdogra and Purnea for quick deployment in Odisha and West Bangal.

In addition at Silchar Kumbhigram medium lift helicopters have been kept standby for thr phase when the storm would start to effect the states of Triipura Mizoram  Manipur and Nagaland.

The operations centre would be established in either Odisha or WB depending on the situatuon as it unfolds .

Bhubaneswar: As Indian Meteorological Department has informed that the eye of Cyclone FANI has moved into the mainland completely, the Regional Met department has issued wind speed warning of over 100 kmph in several parts of Odisha. They are:

1.) Severe thunderstorm with intense rainfall and  gale wind speed reaching 140 to 150 kmph gusting to 165 kmph occuring in districts of Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsingpur.


2) Severe thunderstorm with intense rainfall and  gale wind speed reaching 90 to 100 kmph gusting to 115 kmph occuring in Khorda (including Bhubaneswar), Kendrapada, Jajpur, Denkanal, Bhadrak, Balasore and Nayagadh.

As per latest visual, railway station, construction crane, house roof, aiims roof destoryed in strong wind.

'Fani' fury weakens, heavy rainfall predicted in Odisha, AP, Bengal, northeast: MHA

The eye of cyclonic storm 'Fani' has "completely moved into land" by 10 am on Friday weakening its fury, but heavy rainfall is still predicted in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and parts of the northeastern states, the Home Ministry said Friday.

According to the National Emergency Response Centre, under the home ministry, power and telecommunication lines in Puri district of Odisha are completely down and restoration work is on.

Rescuers belonging to the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Navy, Coast Guard, Army and Air Force have been deployed in a mass operations, closely monitored by the central government.

Cyclone Fani, which is expected to make a landfall at the Odisha coast by Friday forenoon, was nearly 65 kilometres from Gopalpur and 80 kilometres from Puri at 5.30 am, the IMD said.

The Cyclone Warning Division of the India Meteorological Department said the wind speed of the Extremely Severe Cyclone Fani could reach 200-230 kilometres when it makes the landfall.

The cyclone is moving at a speed of 16 kilometres per hour, the IMD said.
