A hardcore Maoist couple, Raju Kayam and Anita Marla surrendered before police in Odisha today. The husband-wife duo was involved in many criminal activities.

Rourkela (Odisha): A hardcore Maoist couple surrendered before the Superintendent of Police (SP), and Commandant, 19BN CRPF in Odisha's Rourkela on Saturday.

The duo, identified as Raju Kayam and Anita Marla, residents of Jharkhand.

According to sources, the husband-wife duo, was active in many criminal activities in Saranda forest near the Odisha-Jharkhand border.

The militants, member of a crucial military zone of the CPI (Maoist), surrendered before Rourkela SP. While Raju joined a crucial military zone of the CPI (Maoist) in 2011, Anita got involved in Maoists activities from 2014, sources said.

They will be provided monetary assistance as per Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme of Government of Odisha and financial assistance for building the house, pursuing studies and training in a trade/vocational of her liking, informed, K Shiva Subramani, SP, Rourkela.
