Odisha: In an effort to raise awareness about the perils of using plastic, an engineering graduate hailing from Odisha's Balasore district has turned into a plastic rag picker.

Fight against Plastic

Setting an example for the people going about their daily lives, without noticing that they're continuously exploiting environment's limited resources, Abhimanyu Mishra opted for social service after completing his engineering instead of running after a secured job.

For the last two years, Abhimanyu is sensitising people against the relentless use of things made of plastic by resembling like a plastic ragpicker and putting on plastic bottles on his whole body. Due to which people have also considered him as mentally retarded and sometimes even labelled him as a thief.

"My aim is to aware people about the damage caused to our environment by the use of plastic. In order to bring people's attention towards me, I put plastic bottles over my body and I am often criticised by people for this unusual look, but this could not stop me from my initiative," Abhimanyu said.

Though his unique initiative has often been criticised and mocked by many people, he has never desisted from his mission.

Abhimanyu is also involved in awareness campaigns conducted by different Non-Government Organisations.

People like Abhimanyu Mishra are striving each day for safeguarding the environment, not for any personal gain, but only because they feel a sense of responsibility, a need to give back to nature and encourage people to live and work as a community.
