Family seeks safe return of Engineer stuck in South Africa

Nanda, reportedly had gone for a three month project at a private farmhouse in South Africa in 2020. However, due to Covid pandemic, he was stranded in the country and his passport and visa also expired during that period.

Dhenkanal (Odisha): Family members of a 28 year old engineer, Sabyasachi Nanda, a native of Odisha's Dhenkal has sought the help of Central and state government to bring him back as he is stuck in South Africa from last one and a half years. Nanda, reportedly had gone for a three month project at a private farmhouse in South Africa in 2020. However, due to Covid pandemic, he was stranded in the country and his passport and visa also expired during that period.

Suddenly on February 19, some masked miscreants entered the farmhouse where Nanda was working and murdered the owner’s son. Following which , the local police seized Nanda’s passport and mobile phone as he is an eyewitness in the case. Tragedy further struck the family on July 7 when Nanda's mother died of a heart attack waiting for her son’s return. Nanda's father Ranjan Kumar Nanda has sought the intervention of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to bring back his son.
