New Delhi: Cyclonic Storm 'Fani' is gradually intensifying in the eastern coast of India and Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has alerted various agencies in the east coast to avoid loss of life and property.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Director General of IMD, Dr. K J Ramesh said that from April 26 onwards it is gradually intensifying and gaining strength and currently it is at 180- 200 Km south east of Visakhapatnam. We are expecting the landfall at Odisha's Puri. So far it is in the open sea.
"We are taking prepatory actions so that loss of life can be minimised," he further added.
He told ETV Bharat that Odisha will be affected by the storm so more focus is on Odisha. The intensity of the wind will be about 180 km per hour.
"We will have normalcy in Odisha by May 4 evening.On May 5 will have normal conditions in West Bengal," he said.
Due to Cyclone Fani, 22 more trains were cancelled by East Coast Railway on Wednesday, taking the total to at least 99 trains.
India Meteorological Department has issued a "Yellow Alert" for Odisha, West Bengal and three districts of Andhra Pradesh in view of cyclonic storm Fani.
