Bhubaneswar: In a major success to Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch, the wing has seized 2.729 kg of brown sugar worth nearly Rs 2.70 crore following raids under Nilagiri PS area in Odisha's Balasore district.
The cops have also arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in the case.
The accused persons have been identified as Pradeep Das and Lokanath Behera of the same district. Both accused persons are students of engineering, police said.
As per reports, the personnel has seized 6.756 kg of brown sugar from the year 2020 till now.
"It may be noted that the magnitude of such seizure in 2020 till date by STF alone is more than that the total cumulative seizure made by Odisha Police during the last 4 years," said, Soumendra Priyadarshi, ADG, Crime Branch.
"In 2019, Odisha Police (All agencies of Odisha Police) had seized 2 Kg 560 gms of brown sugar," he added.
"Similarly, cumulative seizure of Odisha Police in the year 2018 was 635 gms, in the year 2017, 1 kg 782 gms and in the year 2016 was 541 gms," he further added.
