Bhubaneswar: Chandka police station in Bhubaneswar has been adorned with blooming flowers and chirping birds. Spring never ceases here as the garden , which seems like a park or museum has been taken due care. The oldest police station in the state capital soothes visitors who come to lodge a complaint or got entangled in a case.
This police station was established in the year 1868 during the British period. Inspector-in-charge of the police station, whose area of operation is nine Panchayats, had undertaken the beautification of the police station premises as if to lighten the sufferings of the visiting complainants. This place looks less like a police station and creates an illusion of a park or museum for the visitors.
A large number of people from far off places come to have a look at this police station. Even some old and retired government servants and police officers come to have a leisurely walk around here whenever they get free time.
However, after the beautification of the Chandka police station, other police stations in the state capital have followed this model. Many Inspector-in-charges of police stations have initiated special measures to clean the police station premises which normally present a disgusting and dirty atmosphere full of stolen vehicles and those damaged in accidents.
In this line the Airfield police station in Bhubaneswar now presents a treasure house of flowers and an aquarium while the Khandagiri police station attracts the visitors with its water fountain and decorated flower plants placed in the grandeur of Tri-colour. Likewise, the Capital police station, Mahila (Womens) police station and Saheed Nagar police station have followed this beautification programme. People coming to the police stations have been highly impressed with this beautification drive.
