Bhubaneswar: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was shot dead by unidentified men in Odisha's Khordha town late on Sunday.
Khordha Mandal President Manguli Jena was shot at near Khurda BJP MLA candidate Kalucharan Khadayat's residence, police said on Monday.
He sustained critical bullet injuries and was admitted to the Khordha district headquarters hospital. He was declared dead on arrival by doctors.
BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condemned the incident saying, "I request the Election Commission to direct the police to take stringent action against those who are involved in this murder."
The BJP also condemned the murder and demanded justice for the party worker and his family members. BJP leader and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, "Law and order situation in the state has reached to an all-time low, due to which these type of crimes are taking place. But, we believe in the democratic system and we request the state police to perform their duties as per the constitution."
