3 kids killed as paddy heap catches fire in Odisha; CM announces ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh

Three children were charred to death and another sustained critical burn injury in a haystack fire which broke out in Khairachhata village under Polasara police limits in Odisha's Ganjam district. Following this incident, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased.

Berhampur (Odisha): In a shocking incident, as many as three minor children were charred to death and another sustained critical burn injury in a haystack fire which broke out in Khairachhata village under Polasara police limits in Odisha's Ganjam district on Sunday.

Reportedly, three of them succumbed while undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur this afternoon.

According to sources, the mishap took place while the victims busy playing near the haystack and it accidentally caught fire. As the fire engulfed them, they sustained 80 per cent burns on the spot.

Immediately, locals reached the spot and rushed them to Polasara Primary Health Centre after dousing the flames. Later, they were shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur as their health condition deteriorated. However, three of them succumbed while undergoing treatment there.

Following this incident, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed his deep grief and condoled the death of three minors in a tragic fire mishap in Polasara of Ganjam district today.

The CM conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved families and also announced ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased, in a tweet in Odia.
