Chandrapur (Maharashtra): With the commencement of the nationwide lockdown, many of the private firms shut down their companies with the subsequent loss registered during the pandemic.

Hundreds of companies have laid off thousands of their employees. This affects the livelihood of the employees at a larger extent. Several people have ended their lives while numerous people have chosen to fight against the deadly pandemic.

A similar incident can be witnessed at Maharashtra's Chandrapur area where a young engineer has started selling idli in order to beat the depression of being an unemployed engineer.

Palash Jain, hailing from a middle-class family, graduated from Nashik University with a degree in mechanical engineering. After completing his degree, he was associated with a multinational company as a supervisor in Aurangabad.

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a nationwide lockdown to arrest the spread of novel coronavirus in the country, the organisation informed Palash, "You were working well but unfortunately we are not in the condition to pay you salary as the organisation had been facing a huge cash crunch due to lockdown."

As the young engineer has a responsibility to run his family, he has started a stall in the Chandrapur area where Palash along with his family members are serving idli to a hospital nearby and the local people.

While speaking to ETV Bharat, he said, "After completing my engineering degree, I was offered a job of supervisor in a multinational company in Aurangabad. Soon after the lockdown, I had lost my job. I was feeling depressed as I was unable to feed my family. As I am the sole breadwinner in the family, I have decided to run a food stall in my locality."

He further added that his business is running not as expected but as this is a startup, it will eventually grow up with the time.

"Now, I used to sell more than 50-60 plates of idli every day. Each plate cost Rs 20 to the consumer. Thus, I am earning Rs 600-700 a day", added Palash.

When asked about his newly started job, he asserted that he is 'not happy' but at least 'satisfied' with his job.
