With no tourists to see fireflies this year, Bhimashankar locals worried

Locals of Bhimashankar's Bhorgiri have expressed their grief for losing their employment opportunities as the yearly firefly festivals have not been organized for tourists due to the ongoing corona crisis. A lot of fireflies are seen in the Bhorgiri belt this time of year and a lot of tourists come to see these shiny insects, creating employment opportunities for the locals.

Pune: Fireflies have started to appear in Bhimashankar's Bhorgiri area from the first week of June. Thousands of tourists visit this place every year. However, this year due to the ongoing corona crisis, no firefly festivals have been organized for tourists. Therefore, the locals have expressed their grief that they are not getting employment.

Amidst darkness and greenery, Bhimashankar's Bhorgiri looks radiant thanks to the fireflies during this time of the year. The greenery of Bhimashankar's Bhorgiri is pleasing during the day, while at night the entire region glitters due to the presence of these shiny insects. In the pitch-black darkness, different sounds come from the forest. In it, the firefly glistening in the darkness gives a golden look to the green forest. This is pleasing to the eye.

During the beginning of Mrug Nakshatra, there are a lot of fireflies seen in the Bhorgiri belt. A lot of people from Mumbai and Pune come to see fireflies during this time of the year. Fireflies live for only 15 days. After this period of the year, when it begins to rain, fireflies are not spotted.

Although the number of fireflies has increased, many people have lost their homes as there are no tourists to see the scenery. A similar picture can be seen in the Bhimashankar area.
