New Delhi: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Thursday said that the focus should now be on bigger issues like the coronavirus pandemic and unemployment in the country.

Speaking exclusively to ETV Bharat, Raut said that Maharashtra was now "calm" after it was in the national news for the past several months due to the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

"Maharashtra is a big state. Anything which happens here instantly becomes a national issue. But now the state is calm. It is now time for discussion on bigger issues like the border situation with China, the coronavirus pandemic, and the unemployment crisis."

"After the Covid-19 outbreak, around 10-12 crore people in the country have lost their jobs. People are worried about their future. Both the government and opposition should discuss this," he added.

On its ally in Maharashtra, the Congress raking up the issue of unemployment on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday, Raut said the PM has the capability to find a solution to the issue.

"We recognise the Prime Minister's popularity and capabilities. However, unemployment is a very big and important issue. And I feel Prime Minister Modi has the capability to find a solution to the issue," he said.

On being questioned about the allegations against the Maharashtra government by the opposition and on social media over the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, Raut said that even his party was curious as to what the CBI finds in its investigation.

"It has been more than a month since the CBI arrived in Mumbai to investigate into the case. Now even we want to see what result or what proof they unearth," he said.

"The social media is no Supreme Court. The investigative agencies are working, let them do their job," he added.

Meanwhile, on the Chinese aggression on the border not being taken up for discussion in the Parliament, Raut said, "Such matters of national security are very important. Political blame-games should not be played in such matters. The entire nation stands with the troops at the frontline. Even Shiv Sena agrees with this sentiment."
