CM Thackeray visits Ram Lalla Temple to offer prayers

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday visited Ram Lalla Temple in Ayodhya and announced an aid of Rs 1 crore for the construction of Ram Temple while stressing that his party, the Shiv Sena, is committed to Hindutva even though it has broken ties with the BJP.

Thackeray, on his first visit to Ayodhya after becoming CM last November and completing 100 days in office on Friday, also said the aid will be given on behalf of a trust and not the Maharashtra government.

He was accompanied by his wife Rashmi, son and Maharashtra tourism minister Aaditya Thackeray and Congress leader Sunil Kedar.

Ayodhya: Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray in a press conference here before his visit to the Ram temple said, "I am here to seek blessings of Ram Lalla. I have with me today several members of my 'Bhagwa' family. It is my third visit in last 1.5 years. I will also offer prayers today."

He further said,"Today, I want to announce that not from the state govt, but from my trust, I offer an amount of Rs. 1 crore."

"Main BJP se alag hua hun, Hindutva se nahi. BJP ka matlab Hindutva nahi hai. Hindutva alag hai, BJP alag hai," he added.

Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray arrives in Ayodhya. As soon as he arrived, he received guard of honour from the UP police.

Uddhav Thackeray is visiting Ayodhya to commemorate 100 days in office, the Sena, which heads the tripartite dispensation in the state, on Saturday.

Ayodhya: While speaking to ETV Bharat, Shiv Sena state president said, "Uddhav Thackeray will not take part in the 'aarti' programme on the banks of river Sarayu in the temple town."

Referring to his schedule, he further said, "At about 2 PM Thackeray Ji will reach Lucknow and at around 4:30 PM will reach the temple for Lord Ram blessings."

Maha CM leaves for Ayodhya visit

Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday morning left for Ayodhya to offer prayers to Lord Ram to mark 100 days of his government's formation in the state.

Senior Sena leader Sanjay Raut tweeted that Thackeray will reach Faizabad at 1:30 pm.

Without elaborating, he also said that Thackeray might announce an "important" position on the construction of Ram temple.

Uddhav Thackeray to visit Ayodhya today

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who will be on a visit to Ayodhya on Saturday, will not take part in the 'aarti' programme on the banks of river Sarayu, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said on Friday.

Talking to reporters in Lucknow, Raut said the aarti programme will not take place due to the precautions needed to be taken in view of coronavirus.

The aarti programme on the banks of river Sarayu has been stopped by the local administration as a precautionary measure.

Uddhav Thackeray will be visiting Ayodhya on Saturday to offer prayers on completing of his 100 days in office. He is expected to be accompanied by wife Rashmi Thackeray and son and minister Aditya Thackeray.

Thackeray, who assumed office on November 28, 2019, is visiting Ayodhya, a month after the Centre constituted a trust to oversee construction of a Ram temple at the once disputed site in the town.

Sena sources said that some more ministers and party functionaries will be coming to Ayodhya along with the chief minister.

Political analysts opine that by visiting Ayodhya after becoming chief minister , Uddhav Thackeray wants to send a clear message that he has not given up on his Hindutva agenda even though he runs a government in alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress.

The state unit of Shiv Sena, meanwhile, said that the Thackeray family would be arriving on Saturday morning by a state aircraft and would go straight to the Ram Janambhoomi temple to offer prayers.

The Maharashtra chief minister may address a press conference before returning to Mumbai.

Meanwhile, the special train bringing Shiv Sainiks from Mumbai has been booked by an individual through Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) from Mumbai to Ayodhya and return.

The return train will leave for Mumbai on Saturday night.

WhatsApp messages were in circulation among Shiv Sainiks asking party members to board the special train at designated halts if they wanted to visit Ayodhya.

In November 2018, Uddhav Thackeray had first visited Ayodhya with his family. At that time, his party had booked two special trains - one from Mumbai and another from Nashik -- for bringing Shiv Sainiks. (with agency inputs)
