Mumbai: Shilpa Shetty's mother Sunanda Shetty has lodged a complaint with the Juhu police, claiming fraud in a land deal. The complaint was registered against Sudhakar Ghare, vice-president of the Raigad Zilla Parishad in the Karjat district.

Shetty had bought a plot of land in Karjat from Ghare between May 2019 and February 2020. Ghare allegedly duped Sunanda by forging documents of land and bungalow, claiming that the land was in his name. The property was sold for Rs 1.6 crore. After Shetty came to know about this, she demanded a refund from Ghare, who is said to be a close associate of a political leader. Shetty has said in the complaint that Ghare has threatened to go to court and will not return the money for the transaction.

However in a turn of events, Ghare, in a statement to the media has accused Shetty of cheating and defaming him.

Speaking to reporters, Ghare said, "I was paid Rs 1.6 crore for the purchase of a farmhouse at Kharwadi in Karjat taluka. But the total transaction was worth 3.75 crores. Sunanda Shetty's lawyers paid me only after completing all the legal procedures. But then the next transaction was repeatedly delayed, citing a market downturn. I tried to contact them frequently about this but they blocked me. I have since sent two notices to Sunanda Shetty through a lawyer to complete the transaction. But when Sunanda Shetty lodged a complaint against me at the Juhu police station, the police took my statement. The case is now pending in the Panvel court. Sunanda Shetty has cheated me and defamed my name."

"I will now file a defamation suit against Sunanda Shetty," Ghare said in a press conference in Karjat today.

A case has been registered at the Juhu police station following a court order after Shetty approached the court in the case. Juhu police is investigating the matter.
