Mumbai: Sanjay Gaikwad, a well-known builder from Mumbai's Kalyan East who came into the limelight a few days ago after buying a Rolls Royce car worth Rs 8 crore, was booked in a nearly Rs 35,000 power theft case. As per the report, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) filed a case against him at Mahatma Phule police for a power theft case for non-payment of Rs 34, 640.
However, after the case was registered, Gaikwad paid the bill along with the penalty imposed on him, said an official of MSEDCL. "In March 2021 the survey was conducted by the flying squad where it was found the electricity theft of Rs 34,840 and Gaikwad was imposed with a fine of Rs 15,000. He was also informed about the theft and a bill was submitted to him," added the official.
Meanwhile, Gaikwad claimed that the state power distribution company had filed a false complaint in order to defame him. He asked that if at all he had stolen electricity, then why were his meters not removed?
