Mumbai (Thane): A restaurant in Mumbai's Thane has a Robot named 'Baby Doll' as a waitress, serving delicacies across several tables with 'robotic' grace.
Baby Doll is not a conventional waitress, she as per the order picks up food from the kitchen and delivers it at the customer's table.
It is the first Robotic restaurant in Mumbai which attracts the customers with by saying 'Please enjoy your meal' while serving the meal. Her robotic presence makes the restaurant "Veg Canteen" in Mumbai different from all other restaurants.
The robot is imported from Japan worth Rs. 10 lakh and works on magnetic stripe and wi-fi.
Near every table, there is a radio-frequency identification through which table number is identified.
Once the table number is fed by the operator, the food is served on that particular table.
The robot can speak in English according to the pre-defined track programmed in it.
Shailendra Maurya, owner of the restaurant 'Veg Canteen' told ETV Bharat, "As it is first Robotic Restaurant of Maharashtra, the idea of a robot serving food in the restaurant attracts customers and has increased our sales too."
He further said, "Initially my concern was how the robot will communicate with people in case of hindrance on the way. But, there are no such issues as the robot humbly says, 'Kindly please excuse and clear my way'. This allure customers more."
In their feedback, many customers who visited the restaurant said that it surprises them to see a robot serving food in the hotel.
A customer said, "Earlier this restaurant was known for its food and ambiance but now the waitress as a robot has surely added some extra stars on their ratings."
