Woman rescued after 26 hrs from debris

After spending 26 hours trapped under the debris of concrete and steel, a 65-year-old woman finally made it out on Tuesday night with the help of rescuers from a small hole at the site where a five-storey stood before it collapsed in Maharashtra's Raigad.  Reportedly, the five-storey residential building with 45 flats, which was seven years old, collapsed on Monday evening.

Death toll reaches 12, Min announces  ex-gratia to deceased families

At least 12 people died after a building collapsed in a residential area of Mahad in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Monday. 

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Minister Vijay Wadettiwar said, "We've announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs each to the families of the deceased. Financial assistance of up to Rs 50,000 will be provided to those injured in the incident."

"Those who lost their houses should also be given some help hence we'll put this in front of Cabinet tomorrow. We'll not leave people responsible for this collapse, they murdered innocent people. Quality of construction material is very poor & breaking with hands," he said.

Notably, three teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were deployed to the site of the accident late Monday, to join rescue operations conducted by the local police and fire brigade. A green corridor was created from Pune to Raigad to created a swift passage for the NDRF teams.

Death toll rises to 7 in Raigad building collapse incident as NDRF recovers one unidentified female body from the site. So far, bodies of 3 males & 2 females have been recovered & 1 male child has been rescued from the debris. 

"National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) continues rescue operations at the site of building collapse in Raigad.  We have recovered a body & rescued one child. As per official status from collector's office, 17 more may be feared trapped," said Alok Kumar, NDRF officer.

Maha building collapse: child rescued, mother found dead
Raigard: Rescuers sifting through the rubble of a five-storeyed building in Maharashtra's Raigad district on Tuesday found a five-year-old boy alive and his mother dead beneath the debris, police said.

Seventeen persons are still missing after the Tareq Garden building in Mahad town, around 170 km from Mumbai, came down like a pack of cards on Monday evening, an official said.  

The death toll in the tragedy rose to two on Tuesday, with the discovery of the body of Naushin, the child's 30-year-old mother.

A man died of cardiac arrest on Monday night after he was hit by a stone from the falling building, police said.

The death toll from the collapse of a five-storey building in Raigad district of Maharashtra has risen to four.

The National Disaster Response Force said, " Death toll rises to 4 in Raigad building collapse incident in Maharashtra. Bodies of 3 females & 1 male recovered from the site, 1 male child rescued from the debris."

An FIR was registered against five people on Tuesday at Mahad city police station over the building collapse in a residential area of Mahad in Raigad district, in which two people lost their lives.

According to the police, the FIR has been registered under Sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 304-A (causing death by negligence), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life) and 34 (acts by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

So far, no one has been arrested in connection with the case.

Vice Prez expresses grief at loss of lives in Raigad building collapse

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday expressed pain at the loss of lives in a building collapse in Maharashtra's Raigad and said authorities are extending all possible help.

 "Pained by the loss of lives in a building collapse in Raigad, Maharashtra. My condolences to the bereaved families & prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured," the Vice President Secretariat tweeted quoting Naidu.

 Rahul Gandhi offers condolences to kin of deceased, urges Cong workers to assist rescue teams

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday conveyed condolences to the kin of the deceased, who lost their lives in the building collapse in the residential area of Mahad in Raigad district.

"I am distressed/saddened about the incident that took place in Mahad. I offer my deepest condolences to the family members of the deceased," the Congress leader tweeted in Hindi.

He further appealed to the state government to provide immediate aid to the injured and people who are trapped under the debris and urged party workers to assist the rescue teams.

"I appeal to the state government to provide assistance to the injured and trapped people at the earliest. Congress workers also join hands in rescue operations," he tweeted further.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed his sadness at a building collapse in Raigad in Maharashtra, and said local authorities and NDRF teams are providing all possible assistance at the site.

Maharashtra Minister Aditi Tatkare on Tuesday said that at least 60 people were rescued and at least 30 are still feared to be trapped under the debris after a five-storey building in Mahad of Maharashtra's Raigad district collapsed.

Maharashtra Ministers Aditi Tatkare and Eknath Shinde visited the spot where a building collapsed in Kajalpura area of Raigad district last evening.

"Around 60 people rescued, 25-30 are still feared to be trapped under the debris. Three National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are here. One death reported so far. Injured are being treated and some are discharged," Tatkare told.

"Those with serious injuries were taken to Mumbai for advanced treatment. The probe has begun. We wish that Special Investigation Team should be constituted," she added.

Raigad (Maharashtra): A five-storey building in Mahad of Maharashtra's Raigad district collapsed on Monday and over 200 people are feared trapped in it.

A total of 15 people have been rescued so far after three floors of the multi-storey building collapsed, Maharashtra minister Aditi S Tatkare said.

Tatkare said as per the primary information over 200 people reported to be trapped inside the building.

The incident took place in Kajalpura area of Mahad Tehsil.

"15 people have been rescued till now, they have suffered injuries. We have five to six relief teams at the spot. More teams will be arriving here," said Tatkare.

Three NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams have been moved to the spot to carry out rescue operations.
