Pune: Krishna Prakash, the Police Commissioner of Pune's Pimpri Chinchwad recently disguised himself as a common man and inspected three police stations in the locality. Such an activity of the officer has been lauded by the locals and police officials.

Prakash disguised himself as a commoner donning a kurta with jeans, a beard, wig and skull cap, and taking the identity of one fictitious Muslim man. He was also accompanied by the assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Prerna Katte, who was also in plain clothes like a kurta, pants and mask, posing as his spouse reached the police stations and checked the promptness and efficiency of the personnel on duty there.

As part of the exercise, he visited Hinjawadi, Wakad and Pimpri police stations.

He lodged a complaint with the Hinjewadi police station that some anti-social elements had harassed his wife in the Bavdhan locality while they were returning after prayers.

The local police immediately sent a team on the spot and a sub-inspector was asked to conduct a proper investigation as per due process.

Similarly, at Wakad police station, Prakash told the police that his wife’s chain had been snatched by some robbers on a bike and lodged a complaint there.

The third visit was to the Pimpri police station where Prakash used the story of a family that was allegedly overcharged by an ambulance driver to ferry a Covid patient.

After conducting surprise visits to three police stations under his jurisdiction, Prakash revealed his identity and said that he is impressed with the officials of the Hinjewadi and Wakad police stations.

"To test the ground reality, I along with ACP Katte disguised as common citizens and visited three police stations and a couple of nakabandi points in the jurisdiction at night," he said.

"During the visits to Hinjawadi and Wakad police stations, we found that the staff on duty there were prompt in listening to our's woes and were seen taking efforts in registering their complaints," he said.

But during the visit to Pimpri Chinchwad police station, he found that the staff was seen evading their duties by asking them to go to a police chowky attached to the police station.

"It was found that the staff there initially did not give the kind of treatment that was expected from them, although they treated well later. It might be because one of the duty officers recognized me," he said.
