Nashik (Maharashtra): Officials in the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad claim that the banned political organisation Popular Front of India (PFI) planned to "demolish the currently under-construction Ram temple in Ayodhya and rebuild the Babri Masjid". ATS officials claimed that PFI was conspiring to make India a "Muslim nation by the year 2047".

The ATS recently arrested two members of PFI from Malegaon, including the Malegaon district PFI president Maulana Saeed Ahmed Ansari, Pune vice president Abdul Qayyum Sheikhand and three others from the state on suspicion of conspiring to spread communal unrest along with providing money to terrorists.
Centre banned PFI last month after hundreds of persons allegedly linked with the organisation were detained or arrested in raids across several states.
