Pune restaurant with rare specially-abled staff

‘Terasin', a new restaurant in Pune has been experimenting with the combination of local dishes with foreign cuisine. Interestingly, the restaurant has been managed by fifteen to twenty specially-abled people.

Pune: Pune city is renowned for varieties of cuisines and people's love for mouth-watering food. Even while experimenting with versatile dishes, the city still stays glued to its traditional food culture.

Adding a new feather to its cap, ‘Terasin', a new restaurant in Pune has been experimenting with the combination of local dishes with foreign cuisine. Interestingly, the restaurant has been managed by fifteen to twenty specially-abled people. The owner of the restaurant, Dr Sonam Kapase, envisions social empowerment with her business.

Right from the staff who greets customers to the manager, the restaurant provides employment to specially-abled people. The restaurant has a menu card in sign language as well. The menu card is designed in a way that anyone can place an order very easily.

Currently, 15 specially-abled youths work in shifts. Out of curiosity, people have been flocking to the restaurant and inquisitively learn sign language.

"We have started this hotel with the intention of preserving social harmony. The vegetables are bought from around 250 farmers. 15 to 20 specially-abled staff working here come from rural areas of Nanded, Parbhani and Igatpuri in Maharashtra. They have been given special training here. We have also made available another menu card in sign language to give customers a new experience. The menu is easy for customers and staff members to understand," said hotel owner Dr Sonam Kapase.

A customer to the restaurant said the staff working there impressed us. Everything is perfect. Nothing seemed different while ordering, the customer said.
