New twist in Indian navy sailor's murder

Police in Maharashtra has said that their investigation into the murder of Indian navy sailor Suraj Kumar Dubey has revealed mysterious information. The police have said that the victim had invested huge amounts of money in the share market and had also taken loans.

Palghar: Police is investigating new angles in the sensational murder of an Indian navy sailor Suraj Kumar Dubey, who was burned alive in a forest in Talasari. The district police superintendent Dattatray Shinde in a press conference said that their investigations have revealed very mysterious information in the case. The entire episode appears to be full of twists and turns and it is to be seen what the outcome will emerge.

The journey from Chennai to Palghar

According to Suraj Kumar Dubey’s statement given to the police, he was abducted from Chennai and was burnt alive in the forest near Vevji village in Talasari. But, police in their investigation, have come across some baffling information, it is said. The police are baffled with the mystery of how Surajkumar reached Chennai and how he travelled a distance of 1400 KM from Chennai to Palghar.

When Suraj Kumar Dubey’s contact was lost, his father had informed the Navy about it.

Checking of CCTV footage

According to police, from the analysis of CCTV footage obtained from Chennai airport, it can be seen that Suraj Kumar Dubey was loitering there openly. Police are yet to check the ATM from where Dubey withdrew money. Palghar police have formed ten teams to crack the case and nearly 100 police personnel are investigating the matter on various levels. Police teams have already dispatched to Jharkhand and elsewhere. Dubey had three mobiles but his family was unaware of the third one.

Police have found that, when Dubey was abducted, his two mobile phones were switched off but, he had done transactions in share market through the third mobile. One of his relatives had said that his third mobile phone was working till the 1st of February. Dubey made a lot of investment in the share market and took loans. After scanning his bank accounts, it has been revealed that the dead soldier had invested a large amount in the share market and he had also taken loans. He had also borrowed large amounts from friends. Despite assurances, he never paid them back.

On 15th January, the day of his engagement ceremony, his in-laws had deposited as many as 9 lakh rupees in his account. His bank account now shows zero balance.

The sensational incident

Suraj Kumar Mithilesh Dubey (27) from Jharkhand had joined the Indian navy in 2001 as a seaman (sailor). On 31st January, when he reached Chennai airport, three unidentified persons abducted him and kept at an unknown place for three days. They were demanding a ransom of 10 lakhs. When he refused to pay the ransom, he was brought to the forest near Vevji village in Talasari taluka in Palghar district on 5th February. The abductors poured petrol on him and set him ablaze.

The villagers saw an unidentified person in semi burnt condition. They informed Vevji police who immediately rushed to the spot and took him to Dahanu sub-district hospital. Police recorded his statement and he was later taken to Mumbai hospital for further treatment. But, he succumbed to his burn injuries on Saturday. Police have registered a crime under sections IPC 307,364, 392 and 34.
