Earlier, a June 4 order directed the state government to hold fresh counselling session for admission in PG medical and dental courses, and also barred students from changing their options which they filled at the time of applying.

The order came after a bunch of students filed a petition in the Supreme Court regarding fresh round of counselling and admissions after the state government removed EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) quota on SC's order.

Now, the students have come forward seeking the option of changing the course options before the counselling dates.

Besides, the applications were filled between March 30 and April 2 and the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota was implemented on March 7 due to which options were restricted.

Since then the apex court has ordered reversion of EWS quota to the general category.

However, the court had also said that students won't be permitted to make any changes in the application.

Intro:After the Supreme Court's 4rth June order which directed the Maharashtra state to hold fresh counseling session for admission in PG medical and dental courses, and also barring students from changing their options which they filled at the time of applying, 17 students filed a petition again today in the apex court, seeking to let the students change their options.

Body:The students contend that the applications were filled between March 30th and April 2nd and the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota was implemented on March 7 due to which options were restricted. And now since the apex court has ordered reversion of EWS seats to the general cateogary , the students should be given a chance of changing their options.

On May 30th, the SC had ordered that EWS quota could not be applied in 2019-20 year unless until the Medical Council of India increases the number of seats. The court said that the EWS quota which was brought through 103rd ammendment introduced in article 16(6) was brought after the admission process had already started for the courses.

After this judgement, a group of students filed petition saying that fresh round of counselling should be held otherwise it will cause prejudice to the students. In response to this petition, the court had ordered on June 4rth that fresh round if counselling to be held for students. Medical Council of India had suggested that instead of online , physical counselling should be done. The court had though said that students won't be permitted to change the options which they filled.

Conclusion:The matter is listed to be heard on June 10th.
