Mumbai: Narcotics Control Bureau zonal director Sameer Wankhede, who has been spearheading Mumbai drugs-on-cruise case, filed complaint that two Mumbai police personnel were following him. As per the complaint, two Oshiwara police personnel followed him to cemetery. As per sources, CCTV footage was also attached with the complaint to Mumbai police. Wankhede's mother passed away in 2015 and he has been visiting the cemetery for a long time.
The 2008 batch Indian Revenue Service officer was first posted as Customs Officer at Mumbai airport. An investigation under his leadership managed to seize Rs 17,000 crore worth drugs, over the last two years. He served as Deputy Commissioner of Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), Additional SP of National Investigation Agency (NIA), Joint Commissioner of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) during 2008 and 2020, reports said.
It was Wankhade led team's raid inside Cordelia, the Cruise led to the breakthrough of the case. To avoid detection, the NCB sleuths booked themselves on that cruise as ordinary passengers and they soon found some of their co-passengers consuming drugs. Different drugs like MDMA, ecstasy, cocaine, MD (mephedrone) and charas were recovered from them during the raid. The operation followed a tip-off on the proposed rave party that was planned aboard a cruise ship bound on a Mumbai-Goa voyage, setting sail from the International Cruise Terminal, Mumbai.
The Esplanade Court on October 8 rejected bail plea of Aryan Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. So far, eight persons were nabbed by the NCB. The arrested include Nupur Sarika, Ismeet Singh, Mohak Jaswal, Vikrant Chhoker, and Gomit Chopra.
