Nagpur: So many good and bad things are happening in the trying times of pandemic. While some are engaged in exploiting those affected by the pandemic, the frontline warriors are putting duty before self. A doctor from Nagpur recently broke off her engagement to serve Corona patients when the bridegroom's family refused her proposal to postpone marriage as she wanted to be there for her patients.
'Patients need me'
Dr Apurva Mangalgiri was to get married on April 26. However, that is when the raging second wave was putting lives at risk. So she proposed to the bridegroom's family to put the marriage on hold as her patients needed her. But the other party refused to do so. Apurva, therefore, decided to call off the marriage. "My patients need me more than anyone else at present. I know my priorities," she said.
Setting an example
Dr Apurva is MD (Medicine) and is serving at the Central India Cardiology Hospital in Nagpur as a consultant physician. She has been treating Corona patients for one and a half years. She took her family into confidence and discussed the matter with them before making the decision to call off her marriage. The family welcomed her decision.

The bridegroom too is a doctor but his family was in a hurry for the marriage. Apurva was reluctant to put lives at risk by getting married during the pandemic and therefore decided to break the alliance and call off the marriage and instead concentrate on her responsibility as a doctor. She is being lauded for her courage and dedication.
Lost her father to Corona
Apurva lost her father last year in the first wave of the pandemic. She has been through it and knows how the family suffers after such a loss.
