Mumbai: A four-year-old boy, who fell into open drainage in Mumbai's Virar city was found dead on Tuesday.
The unfortunate incident happened when minor boy identified as Hitansh Meher, followed his grandmother, as she went to fetch water in her village in Bandarpada area of Arnala near an uncovered drain, the police said.
The boy went missing after a while. His family members searched for him the whole day, only to find his body in open drainage at evening, police added.
Soon after receiving the complaint, the police along with fire brigade personnel from Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation reached the spot to carry out search and rescue operation. However, they were unable to locate the child for hours.
Hours later, the deceased's body was recovered from the drain located in the Bandarpada area, police informed.
People had already complained about the open drainages to the authorities, but no action was taken place. Now the family members are accusing authorities, as their ignorance has caused Hitansh's death.
