MLA Nitesh Rana and his supporters arrested for mud attack on PWD engineer

The MLA was unhappy eith the potholes on the highway

Mumbai: Maharashtra Congress MLA Nitesh Rane abused and poured buckets of mud on a deputy engineer's head to teach him a lesson. The incident took place at the Gad-Nadi bridge in Kankavli. Pummeled on social media, Nitesh Rane later drove to the police station and turned himself in.

He was arrested along with two members of the Maharashtra Swabhiman Party in connection with the case.

Rane and his supporters had gone to "inspect" road repairs on a stretch of the Mumbai-Goa highway when they targeted a sub-engineer, Prakash Shedekar, over the condition of the road.

In the video, Nitesh, son of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Narayan Rane can be seen standing with Swabhimaan Sangathan workers, asking them to pour mud on the engineer.

The lawmaker further said, "I am going to see to it if they are completing the work properly. I don't care if cases are registered against me. I will personally now monitor the work with a stick in hand."

Reacting to the brazen attack on a government official, the accused MLA's father Congress MP Narayan Rane said, "This behaviour is wrong. The protest over the highway issue is correct but this violence by his supporters is not correct. I don't support this."

The incident comes just days after BJP MP Kailash Vijayvargiya's son Akash Vijayvargiya was arrested for assaulting municipal officer Dhirendra Singh Bais with a cricket bat during an argument over a demolition drive in Ganji compound area in Indore.
