Mumbai: In a shocking incident of crime reported from Maharashtra capital Mumbai, the body of a woman stuffed in a suitcase was found in Kurla in central Mumbai, the police said on Sunday. The circumstances of the alleged murder were not immediately known at the time this report was filed. The identity of the woman was also not known immediately.
An official said that the body of the woman was recovered after the police were informed around 12.30 pm about a suitcase lying abandoned on the CST Road at Shanti Nagar, where work for a Metro project is underway. Soon after receiving the inputs, the police reached the spot and found a woman's body inside the suitcase, the official said.
The body was sent to a civic hospital for autopsy, he said, adding that the woman's identity is yet to be established. Police are examining footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area, he said. The Kurla police have registered a case under Indian Penal Code section 302 (murder) and a search is on to track those who killed her, the official added.
Pertinently, in another crime against women reported from Maharashtra on the day, a 19-year-old college student was allegedly raped by two men at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) quarters in Mumbai after spiking her drink, police said. According to the Mumbai police, the alleged sexual assault took place in Chembur Postal Colony area on the intervening night of Wednesday-Thursday.
Police have arrested the accused while further investigation into the case is going on.
