Maharashtra govt owes lakhs of rupees in water tax

Government bungalows used by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and other ministers have been put on the defaulter list by the municipality. Ministers do not pay from their pockets but the Maharashtra government has still not cleared the dues.

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray along with several other ministers of the Aghadi government, owe Rs Rs 24.56 Lakh as dues on water tax and government residences.

One RTI activist Shakeel Ahmed has alleged that the ministers have not cleared the water tax amount. The dues have been pending for more than a year and bungalows have also been put on the defaulter list by the municipality.

Even though the ministers are not supposed to pay from their pockets the dues, the Maharashtra government has still not cleared the dues.

However, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also not taken any action.

Sheikh questioned," How much water bills are outstanding on the residence of which minister? If the government department does not pay water arrears on time, why should the general public pay? Also, will Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal dare to cut off the water supply to the ministerial residence?"

According to RTI reply, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, his deputy Ajit Pawar and several other state ministers and opposition leaders owe Rs 24,56,469 as pending water tax and they have not cleared their due for over a year.
