Maharashtra: Ananda Ashokrao Patil with low vision secures 322 rank in CSE

Ananda Ashokrao Patil underwent cataract surgery at the age of three. Unlike other aspirants, Ananda had to tackle several obstacles to pass Civil Service Examination.

Kolhapur: The uphill task of passing UPSC examination posed further challenges for Ananda Ashokrao Patil with low vision. Undergoing cataract surgery on both eyes at the age of three did not deter his aspiration to become a civil servant. With persistent efforts and dedication, Patil secured 322 rank in CSE.

Periled by low vision, Patil listened to audio clips while preparing for UPSC examination.

Cataract surgery at the age of three

Ananda's parents noticed that he had vision problems at the age of three. After cataract surgery, he gained little vision. Reading, writing did not come easily for Ananda. It took umpteen endurance and patience for Ananda to complete his studies with flying colours.

Hindered over reading text on blackboard, Ananda got habituated by sitting in the front row. His friends also turned as a resort for his pursuits. With advanced technology, mobile applications gave him a respite.

Educational background

Ananda completed his primary education from New Marathi High School in Gargoti and his secondary education from English Public School in Amboli. Then, he did Diploma in Civil Engineering at ICRE at Mauni University. Later, he studied BTech at Rajarambapu Institute of Technology (RIT) College, Islampur.

After completing his degree in 2017, Anand started preparing for UPSC. Even though, he failed in the first two attempts, he remained firm in his resolve and emerged victorious in the third attempt. He extensively utilised internet resources especially Youtube for his preparation.

After passing engineering, Ananda was in dilemma regarding his career. After getting guidance from many people, he decided to appear for UPSC.

"I feel very good after this success. My parents worked hard to teach me. My sisters helped me a lot in education. My friends also helped me a lot in my studies," said Ananda.

Ananda's father is an engineer in irrigation department, his mother is a housewife. Both his sisters are also engineers.
