Hyderabad: Campaigning for the Maharashtra Assembly polls is in its last week, with both the ruling and opposition parties fielding stalwart leaders for campaigning.

Interestingly in this election, there are a few candidates in fray whose fathers are in active politics. This club includes stalwarts like Uddhav Thackeray’s son Aditya Thackeray, MP Sunil Tatkare’s daughter Aditi Tatkare, Eknath Khadse’s daughter Rohini Khadse, Narayan Rane’s son Nitesh Rane, former chief minister Sushil Kumar Shinde’s daughter Praniti Shinde, and Raosaheb Danwe’s son Santosh Danwe.

Though in popular culture, it is always the mother’s affection that is highlighted, in political families, it is mostly the ‘father’ who fulfils his responsibility, remaining behind the screen. With the election winds now blowing, many parties have given tickets to the sons and daughters of leaders in active politics. Hence, the fathers are trying very hard for the victory of their children, and are leaving no stone unturned.

Uddhav Thackeray’s son Aditya is contesting from the Worli Assembly constituency. His father Uddhav Thakre will address a rally for his son in the last leg of campaigning. In Konkan, NCP MP Sunil Tatkare’s daughter Aditi Tatkare is contesting from the Shrivardhan constituency. Her father Sunil Tatkare is addressing rallies and campaign meetings in the constituency. Senior Congress leader Sushil Kumar Shinde’s daughter Praniti Shinde is also in the fray from Solapur City Central. For her campaign, her father Sushil Kumar is vigorously touring the constituency. He has addressed many meetings of party workers, campaign rallies and seems to be making efforts day and night to ensure her daughter’s win.

Santosh Danwe, son of union minister Raosaheb Danwe, is contesting from Bhokardan constituency in Jalna district. This will be a test for Raosaheb Danwe’s hold on the constituency. He will address a rally in the last leg of campaigning in Bhokardan. In North Maharashtra, senior BJP leader Eknath Khadse’s daughter Rohini Khadse is contesting from Muktainagar. Khadse himself is heavily campaigning in the constituency for her daughter. Narayan Rane’s son Nitesh Rane is contesting from Kankavli and it will be a test for Narayan Rane’s prestige. Shivsena has fielded a candidate here against Nitesh and hence Rane is fiercely campaigning to ensure his dominance.

Meanwhile, since this is the last week of campaigning, numerous central leaders from all parties are campaigning in the state. While the state goes to polls on October 21, the counting of votes will take place on October 24, meaning it will be decided who bursts the firecrackers before Diwali itself.
