Kerala cops nab man from Maharashtra over burglary of gold, cash at co-op bank

Rahul Ghadge, gold and silver trader from Satara, was arrested by Kerala police in Maharashtra. 3.5 kilogram of silver was seized from his jewellery in connection with Marutha Road Cooperative Rural Credit Society Bank burglary.

Kerala police arrest man from Maharashtra's Satara over burglary of gold, cash at co-op bank

Satara: Kerala police have arrested Rahul Ghadge, gold and silver trader from Satara, in connection with burglary at Marutha Road Cooperative Rural Credit Society Bank in Kerala. 7.5 kilogram of gold and cash were looted on July 26 from the bank in Palakkad district of Kerala.

Three and a half kilogram of silver was seized from his jewellery. Police said that Ghadhe got commission from accused Nikhil Ashok Joshi, and he invested it in ornaments. Ghadge will be interrogated further. Police also inspected Ghadge's house in Sadashiv Peth. The prime accused Dr Nileb is yet to be apprehended and he is absconding, said police.

The case so far

Nikhil Ashok Joshi, a 51-year-old resident of Nashik in Maharashtra was arrested on August 14 from a hotel in Satara. However, police could not recover gold. He had already sold it. The strong room in the bank was found opened with glass cutters and gold, money was found missing. The bank was closed for three days and bank officials could not confirm the date of the incident. CCTV wires and alarm were damaged by the accused. Power connection to the bank was also disrupted. Analysis of the Kerala State Electricity Board record found out that power was disconnected on July 24 between 9.30 pm and 10 pm. Joshi arrived in an Innova car and for over a month he stayed at various lodges. He escaped to Maharashtra on July 25 after abandoning the car at Walayar, as per reports.
