Gadchiroli: To ensure smooth elections in the Naxal-hit Gadchiroli-Chimur Lok Sabha seat of Maharashtra, the state administration has started preparing for the polls in full swing despite several threats from the Maoists.
The remote regions of the inaccessible terrain pose a great challenge as Naxalites, operating from the dense forests surrounding the area, have asked the locals to boycott the general elections, soon after the poll dates were announced by the Election Commission.
ETV Bharat reached these inaccessible villages to know the ground reality of the region.
Keeping in mind the accidents that occurred during previous elections including the attacks on the polling party, police force and firing on the polling booths, the trained task force has been deployed in the area to keep a check on the active Naxal activities.
Special arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair elections and the officials have been trained to avoid any untoward incident, said the police officer.
Helicopters have been arranged to help people commute from remote areas to cast their votes.
