Palghar: A driver of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has been arrested for recklessly driving a bus that was transporting EVMs to Jawhar in the district, police said on Wednesday.
The driver, Yogesh Gawari (38), was found driving the bus under the influence of liquor on Monday night, after polling for the Palghar Lok Sabha seat got over, police said.
"After the polls, the driver was assigned the task of transporting the EVMs and other poll equipment in an MSRTC bus to the counting centre at Jawhar from Mokhada in Palghar," district rural police spokesperson Hemant Katkar said.
A police jeep was following the bus, he said.

"The police personnel observed that he was driving the bus in a rash and negligent manner. They asked the driver to stop the bus and found that he was drunk," Katkar said.
Thereafter, the driver was detained and sent for a medical examination, which confirmed that he was under the influence of liquor, he added.
The EVMs were later shifted to another bus and sent to Jawhar, Katkar said, adding that Gawari was booked under IPC sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and others by the Mokhada police.
