Mumbai: With several states banning the sale and use of firecrackers ahead of the Diwali this year, Sarika Shahu, hailing from Maharashtra's Mahim has come up with a unique way to create environment-friendly firecrackers and made edible firecracker chocolates.

Shahu offers a range of chocolates that resemble popular crackers like Anar, Chakri, Rocket, Sutli Bomb, Laxmi Bomb, and Lavangi. The wrapping foil paper mimics vintage firecracker labels and designs, and the packaging includes brown paper bags and boxes.

For the last three years, Sarika Shahu has been making crackers from this chocolate and selling it in various cities. Sarika makes all kinds of firecrackers from the chocolates available in the market and sells them in this market as well as in various cities.

Shahu said, "For the last three years, I am making chocolate crackers by doing housework for 15 days before Diwali, and now I am selling crackers made from about 15 to 20 kg of chocolate per day. The demand for these chocolate firecrackers is good despite the Covid period."

"This year, there is a good demand for these chocolate-crackers in our own country. People love these eco-friendly firecrackers. Fewer chocolate crackers have been sold this year than last. Many kids, as well as adults, cannot think of a Diwali without crackers. So, I decided to make sweets in the shape of crackers," she said.

"The chocolate is wrapped around it with a specific shape of crackers. It contains all the crackers like ground spinners, sparklers, rockets, flower pots made from chocolate. Last year, they also exported these crackers internationally. But this time it was not possible because of the current Covid situation," said Sarika.
