Covid-19 has affected higher share of men in Maharashtra compared to other states: Report

The health department of Maharashtra reported that Covid-19 patients in terms of genderwise distribution of Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra show there is more number of men than women who have been infected by the virus. There are 62% male patients of the coronavirus disease against 38% females and the proportion of men among the dead is also higher.

Mumbai: With more than two lakh COVID-19 cases, Maharashtra is the worst-affected state. The recent data showed that a significantly high share of men in Maharashtra tested positive for COVID-19 compared to other states of the country. Considering the statistics, 62 per cent of the total patients in the state are male and 38 per cent are female.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 2 lakh 11 thousand 145 patients have been infected with coronavirus in the state till July 7, out of which 1 lakh 30 thousand 104 patients are men.

There are 81 thousand 41 female patients. Amongst the ones who lost their lives to Coronavirus, 65 per cent are men and 35 per cent are women. This information indicates that men are the biggest victims of Coronavirus.

As children are vaccinated, they are said to be less susceptible to infections as they have better immunity. But in the last fortnight, the cases of Coronavirus in children has increased slightly.

The health department said that an analysis of all Covid-19 patients in terms of genderwise distribution of Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra shows there is more number of men than women who have been infected by the virus. An analysis of the 97,407 Covid-19 cases indicates that there are 42,314 or 20.60% people between the ages of 31 to 40 who are among those who have contracted the respiratory disease in the state.

A gynaecologist from Mumbai Municipal Corporation's Nair Hospital, Dr Neeraj Mahajan clarified that the risk of Coronavirus is less for women or more for men. Those who travel outside of their home are more likely to be infected with the corona. "According to this, a large number of men are coming out and we can say that they are the biggest victims of Corona," he concluded.

Of the total deaths reported to the Medical Research Council of India, 65 per cent were men and 35 per cent were women.
