Bird Flu: Biggest culling operation begins in Nandurbar After receiving the reports of samples of dead birds that tested positive for Bird Flu in Navapur poultry.
Around 5 lakh poultry birds from 10 poultry farms in radius of one Km. will be culled first.
Poultry owners are set to face huge loss worth crores of rupees. At the same time, thousands of youths whose livelihood depend upon this industry are also feared to be out of work.
Birds in four poultry farms have been tested positive for bird flu. As many as 200 employees of veterinary department culled 34 thousand poultry birds on Sunday.
With the increase in the number of employees, 70 thousand more birds will be culled today.
Initially, 1.50 lakh poultry birds from 4 poultry farms will be culled and then 4 lakh 90 thousand birds from poultry farms situated at a distance of one KM. will be destroyed.
The decision will be taken for the remaining birds after receiving the reports of the sample sent.
According to District Collector of Nandurbar, nearly 6 lakhs of birds will be culled in the first phase and 3 lakh will be in the second phase.
The poultry owners are facing huge loss due to Bird Flu. Seeing their colossal loss Navapur, the compensation being given to them as per government norms is inadequate.
Increases in loss are not only because of infection but also due to the decomposition of their foods and eggs.
On average, the poultry owners have suffered a loss of 15 Cr. Rupees in Navapur alone.
