Bajaj Auto Factory: Emerging COVID-19 hotspot in Maharashtra

As many as 250 employees associated with automobile giant- Bajaj, have been infected with coronavirus in its Maharashtra based factory. The company found its first case on June 10. Since then, 250 workers got infected and five of them have lost their lives.

Aurangabad (Maharashtra): The Bajaj auto factory comes under the radar of the deadly virus as more than 250 employees working in the Waluj area here have been affected for the novel coronavirus in the last 26 days.

As per the reports, India’s biggest exporter of motorbikes has an annual production capacity of over 3.3 million motorbikes and other vehicles, in which the Waluj plant accounts for more than half of the company's manufacturing volume in India.

According to the reports, the Waluj plant had reported the first case on June 10. Within 16 days, the virus had engulfed more than 140 workers and claimed the lives of two people in the production house. With the steady increase in the case, the employees have demanded the authority to a cessation of the plant for two days. However, the employees claim that the authority has denied their request and alleged that the administration has asked the workers to learn- “how to live with the virus”.

With the negligence of the company, now, as many as 250 workers get infected with the virus.

When ETV Bharat contacted District Collector Uday Choudhary and Police Commissioner Chiranjiv Prasad, they said that they have visited the company and discussed the condition with the authority.

"As this is a long battle. Therefore, closing the company is not a proper solution. There is a chance that the virus would continue with us for a long time. So, the workers need to adhere to the protocols to minimise the loss", said DC.

Now, what is the Standard Operation Procedure for a company during this COVID pandemic:

A. If two cases emerge in a company, the company needs to shut down for a minimum of two days. In the meantime, it should be sanitised properly to avoid any spread of the virus.

B. In case of death of an employee, the company should compensate the kin of then worker.

C. If a worker got infected, it is a moral duty of the organisation to bear the medical expenses of the employee.

According to the report, until now, five workers have lost their lives while battling with the deadly virus but none of the family members gets any job or compensation amount from the company.
