AIMIM leader, supporters violate social distancing norms with huge gathering in Mumbai

A video of a rampant violation of social distancing norms, by an AIMIM leader and his supporters, is doing the rounds in Mumbai. Hundreds of party workers gathered in front of AIMIM leader Akhil Sheth's home as he returned home after recovering from COVID-19.

Mumbai: Even as the number of positive cases of COVID-19 reaches around 90,000 mark in Mumbai, AIMIM workers grossly violated social distancing norms at Vaijapur taluka on Sunday.

Hundreds of party workers gathered in front of AIMIM leader Akhil Sheth's home as he returned after recovering from COVID-19.

A video of the incident showed his supporters celebrated his return by bursting firecrackers and cheering him, even while not wearing masks or maintaining social distance.

As per reports, Sheth had tested positive a few days ago and was admitted to a hospital. On Sunday, he returned his home after recovering.

The deputy Mayor of Vaijapur was also present in the gathering and the local police have registered a case against this, said sources.

It is to be noted that Maharashtra is the worst-affected state in the country, and Mumbai the worst-affected city. Maharashtra has reported 2.06 lakh cases, including 8,822 deaths so far, according to the Union Health Ministry.
