Latur (Maharashtra): At least 40 students from a hostel situated in the MIDC area of Latur city in Maharashtra tested positive for COVID-19.

The cases came to the front when one girl in the hostel was tested positive following which all the girls who came in her contact were also tested.

Maharashtra, which has the highest infection tally, reported 5,210 fresh infections on Monday after logging over 6,000 cases for three days in a row.

Mumbai, which has recorded a 36.38 per cent rise in active Covid-19 cases since February 8, saw 760 new cases after reporting over 900 infections daily for two consecutive days.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra government imposed strict restrictions on people's movements although it is not yet a case of lockdown.

Restrictions have been across the cities of the state showing a sharp spike and they include Amravati, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, Nashik, Aurangabad, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli, Akola, Yavatmal, Washim and Buldhana.

Within Buldhana city, it is localities such as Chikahli, Khamgaon, Deulgaon Raja and Malkapur where a large number of COVID cases have been recorded in the last few days, Buldhana ADM Dinesh Geete
