Mumbai: Aggravating concerns over Covid, 29 MBBS students of King Edward Memorial Hospital and Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College in Mumbai have tested positive for Covid-19. Among the 29 students, 22 are second year and seven are first-year MBBS students. The students showed symptoms in the last two or three days.

It is speculated that sports competitions and cultural events held in medical college would have led to the infection. One student has been admitted to Seven Hills hospital in Mumbai while other students who are asymptomatic have been quarantined. All students were already inoculated with two doses against Covid.

The state government has been gearing up to open schools on October 4. However, in spite of the MBBS students testing positive, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar clarified that students will be allowed to attend school only on the basis of their parents' consent.

As per reports, 3,187 Covid cases were reported on Wednesday in the state. 49 deaths were also reported and at present, there are 36,675 active cases.
