New Delhi: Once a loyal Congress worker, BJP's unassuming Lok Sabha candidate Krishna Pal Singh sent shock waves across the political spectrum with his 'giant-killing' victory in Guna, where he defeated sitting MP Jyotiraditya Scindia with a handsome margin of 1,25,549 votes.
Speaking exclusively to ETV Bharat, Singh attributed his incredible feat of conquering the Scindia stronghold to Prime Minister Modi's success. "With Modiji around, everything is possible. In the five years of PM Modi's tenure, India has seen a lot more progress than it did in the last 70 years," he said.
"Under his tenure, India made a name for itself on the world stage. There was a Modi wave all across India. Yes there were local issues as well, but the wave had a telling effect," he added.
According to several media reports, once an ardent Congress supporter and worker, Singh quit the grand old party after he was ignored by the leadership. A picture has now gone viral on social media, where then Congress worker Krishna Pal Singh is seen trying to click a selfie with Scindia who was sitting inside his car.
Downplaying any bitter feeling towards Scindia, Singh said, "India is a democracy. This is is no longer the era of Kings and royalty. Every common man gets his opportunity to do good work for the society. In the end, the electorate chooses the one who does good work for them."
"This election was not just about me and Scindia. This election was also about choosing a good prime minister for India, and in the end, India made its choice clear in Narendra Modi," he added.
Interestingly, Singh's father was also a Congress worker and was reportedly close to Madhavrao Scindia. "My family for long had served the Scindias. My father too had started his political journey along with the late Madhavrao Scindia with the Jan Sangh. Later, both of them together joined the Congress," Singh said.
Brushing aside reports of his ministerial ambitions, Singh said, "I am not at all thinking about getting a ministerial berth. Even for the ticket I had not made any demands. In the end, the people of Guna matter, and I will do whatever is best for them."
