Mothers are asking their daughters to watch 'The Kerala Story': scriptwriter Suryapal Singh

'The Kerala Story' scriptwriter said he was getting threats but those were much less compared to the large number of people who have been praising the film.

Indore: The controversial film 'The Kerala Story' is going strong at the box office drawing both criticisms and appreciation. Scriptwriter of the film, Suryapal Singh shared the story behind the making of the film.

Due to the subject matter of the film, it was rejected on many platforms. Then, a research was done for six years apprehending the opposition it may face on release, he said. Infact no writer was ready to pen down the script of this film. So, the producers too were also not ready to go ahead with it, he added. Finally, director Sudipto Sen met budding script writer Suryapal Singh and approached him to write the complete script of the film.

Suryapal said that the script of the film has not been written like that of other films. He said that every scene and plot of the film has been written according to the experiences of the victims and after speaking with them. The film has earned Rs 90 crores so far.

"The best thing is that people are appreciating this film. There are cases where mothers are watching first and then sending their daughters. One daughter told her mother that she would not be able to sleep at night. Her mother said that it is good because now we can sleep peacefully," he said.

Deliberating on the threats that have started since the film's trailer was launched, Singh said that all mebers of the team were getting threats. "But, the threats are nothing compared to the praises that we are getting. People can criticise but the number of our critics is nothing compared to the huge number of people who are appreciating the film," he added.
