Bhopal: Curious political moves are being played out in Madhya Pradesh. The state Congress Committee on Wednesday appointed Sanjay Masani, the brother-in-law of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, as the vice-president of the state Congress.

Masani had rebelled against his brother-in-law and contested the state Assembly elections on a Congress ticket in 2018 from Waraseoni. Kamal Nath had eventually inducted in the ministry Independent MLA Pradeep Jaiswal who had defeated Masani.

Jaiswal later joined the rebels who brought down the Kamal Nath government. The Chouhan government recently accorded him the status of a cabinet minister, as chairman of the State Mineral Corporation.

PCC chief Kamal Nath has made Masani the regional coordinator in-charge of the by-election campaign. Masani, who hails from Gondia in Maharashtra, has been insisting that the state needs Kamal Nath, not Shivraj Singh Chauhan as the Chief Minister.
